ESS Progress Chart For Kids (6-12)

As instructors, we'll try our best to keep our teaching method effective, simple and straight forward. And we will always keep ourself updated with the swimming techniques development and simplify the teaching method without neglecting the swimming strokes and techniques.

In order to create a more effective, communicable, efficient yet simplified swimming teaching method and program, we came up with this ESS (Everyone Should Swim) progression chart for students/alumni to self-review your own progress. As swimmers, you should be aware of your own progress and thus this chart is developed for your reference. This chart consists of knowledge levels and which skills are taught and learned at each level. By end of each level, you should be able to demonstrate the skills taught before progressing to the next level.

We believe that this chart is adequately prepared with necessary skills progression in order for you to become competent swimmers. Different progress chart are constructed for both adults and kids. For kids, we'll concentrate more on preparing them to be ready for swimming with good techniques and posture up to competitive level and as for adults, program is more towards leisure swimming, lifesaving and exercise for fitness and stamina.

We encouraged you to swim more and do a lot of practise to get the comfort in swimming.

ESS PROGRESSION CHART FOR KIDS (6-12)

Kids who enrolled in kids class (private or non-adults group) and aged between 6-12 at the time of registration will now follow this new teaching system effective immediately (for new registration). This new system means that children will learn strokes at this sequence:

Basic Water Foundation
Front crawl/Freestyle
Back crawl/Backstroke
Breaststroke
Butterfly

Level 1

Enter and exit pool safely and unassisted
Blow bubbles in water
Fully submerge below surface and identify objects underwater
Push and glide on front and back with float for 5 meters
Bobbing
Kick 25meters on front with fins


Level 2


Kick 25m without fins while holding a float
Freestyle 25m without fins
Kicking on back with fins
Squat dive

Level 3

Push and glide on back and front for 3m
Freestyle 25m without fins
Backstroke 25m with fins
Breaststroke 25m
Tread water for 1min
25m dolphin kicks with fin

Level 4

Dive and glide for 5m
Freestyle 50m, backstroke 50m and breaststroke 50m
25m butterfly with fins
Scull 15m with flutter kicks

Level 5

Dive and underwater swim
50m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke with starts & open turns
50m butterfly with fins
500m any strokes with fins, nonstop

Level 6

100m freestyle with starts and flip turns
100m breaststroke with underwater start and turn
200IM with start and turns
(5 minutes rest in between for above item is allowed)
Swim 800m any stroke with fins
