Swimming or merely moving in the water is not human's nature. Human are simply land-based mammals. We're not born to be in the water. We need to first be able to adapt ourself in water conditions. Yet, why swimming has becoming so popular, even parents want their new born baby to be able to swim?
I believed that as earth are surrounded by more than 75% of water, in the form of rivers, seas and ocean, we need to overcome this barrier. The second human nature, is to survive and to be superior. Therefore, human, naturally must find ways to utilize the water, other than by drinking it. If we cannot get rid of it, then live with it! The ancients must have thought of it, therefore, swimming activities has started many many years ago..2000BC. That's a looonnggng history. For human's survival, swimming is one of them. That's reason numero UNO.
Secondly, swimming is fun thing to do. This fun element in swimming should be the focus point. What is your first swimming experience? Can you recall the feeling? I bet everyone feels extremely ecstatic the moment they are able to swim even it's just a stroke or two. Always store that in your mind every time you go for swim session.
From observation, adults who enrol for swimming course share the same determination. They have set their mind to learn, and they are very well focused, especially during the first 2 hours. Normally at this stage, average adults which has no water phobia, in good physical condition should be able to float and move comfortably in the water. For them, this is swimming. Being able to float is swimming to them even technically, it's not. But who would care? I know at this time, the same ecstatic feeling is too overwhelming. Nobody can ever forget how it feels when you're able to do something that you aren't sure you are capable of doing.
In the learning process, you might find that at times, it's not as breeze as you wanted it to be. Should you stop then? Of course not. Quitting in the middle of swimming course is lame. Don't be a lame person, be a fun one. Remember, we're land based mammals, water is not our specialty. It's normal as a human for not being able to move as sleek as a fish in the water. Swimming is like walking for toddlers. At times you might fall, or in this context, you sink. All you need to do is to continue doing it and once you've overcome your difficulty, the same ecstatic feeling will emerge.

That is why swimming is so much fun. It will brings you to the peak of your emotions, every time you've conquered your obstacles. I know there are times you feels like stopping. But try to make it a point to always remember how delighted you are when you first realized your swimming/floating/bubbling ability. Then what do you do? Just keep swimming, swimming and swimming.
